The Phalanx class cruiser was the Imperium's intermediate response to the larger battleships deployed in later parts of the Vega Conflict by Terran ship yards. Far cheaper than the battlecruisers that formed the mainstay of their fleets, the Phalanx was easier and cheaper to produce and proved to be an effective countermeasure to heavy fleet deployments. The Phalanx employs a variety of weapons, including an advanced fusion beam weapon and fusion warhead torpedoes that are capable of rending even the thickest of hulls and armor plating with ease.
